What Is Numerology?

Numerology is the study of numbers as they pertain to a person's full name given at birth, name(s) currently used and his/her date of birth.  Using numerology a numerologist can determine a person's strengths and weaknesses of character as well as his/her life purpose.  A numerologist can also identify exactly when challenges as well as opportunities will occur throughout a person's life.  To be honest, I never used to believe in numerology.  I had nothing to do with choosing my name and neither did you when we were born!  So how can a person's name and date of birth say anything about him/her?  I don't know how it works but I have been applying the principles of numerology for years now and I can attest that it does work.  But don't believe me.  Prove it to yourself.  That's what I did.  Check out my Famous People Analyzed section to see how to blend the individual rules of numerology together to make sense of someone.

 

The full name given at birth is the name that appeared on the first record of birth, usually a birth certificate but may be an entry in a family bible or baby book - whatever is accepted in the person's culture.  Some people change their name during their lifetime (including women who get married) and a second chart is constructed for the changed name.  However, the name first recorded at birth still profoundly affects the personality and destiny.

Who Invented Numerology?

Around 580 B.C., Pythagoras, the Greek mathematician, philosopher and mystic who is considered the "Father of Numbers” determined that number was the essence of all things.  He taught his students in his Mystery School that nothing could exist without the influence of numbers.  Pythagoras also taught that the human soul is immortal.  Pythagoras believed that mathematics could stand alone and that numbers formed the foundation for almost all of philosophy, music, astronomy -- literally any creative endeavor!


How Do I Determine My General and Specific Life Path Numbers?

Your Specific Life Path Number is simply the two-digit sum of the individual digits in your date of birth, including the month, day, and year.  As an example, my date of birth is 6-28-19 68 so the two-digit sum of my birth date digits is 6+2+8+1+9+6+8 = 40.  40 is my Specific Life Path number.

 

Your General Life Path number is the number you get when you reduce your two-digit Specific Life Path number to a single-digit, or 10, 11, or 12.  In the case of 10, 11, and 12 don't reduce these numbers further to a single-digit.  For me, I add 4 + 0 = 4.  4 is my General Life Path number.  The Specific Life Path number and General Life Path number can be written together by separating the two with a slash mark (/).  So, my General Life Path Number is 4 and my Specific Life Path number is 40.  Thus, I write the Life Path Number as 40/4.

 

More Detailed Steps for Determining Your Life Path Number

 

1.    Make sure you have an accurate date of birth.

2.    Write the date of birth numerically, not using words.  For consistency write the month, then the day, then the year.  Write the complete century not an abbreviation (1968 not 68).  Use the correct number for each month:

5 May

9 September

2 February

6 June

10 October

3 March

7 July

11 November

4 April

8 August

12 December

3.     Put a plus sign (+) between each digit, including zeros; then add all of the digits to get a sum.  See my example above.

4.     Once you have added all of the digits of the birth date, put a plus sign (+) between the two remaining digits and add them together to reach a final sum (except 10, 11, and 12 - keep as two-digit numbers).  In my example, 40 = 4 + 0 = 4.  For birth dates in the twentieth century, you will always end up with a final sum of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12.

5.     Write the complete Life Path Number as the original sum (40 in my case) followed by the final sum (4 in my case), and separate the final sum from the first two digits with a slash mark (/).  40/4 in my case.

6.     Double check your math to make sure you have the correct Life Path Number.

 

Examples of Birth Dates to find Life Path Numbers

 

1.     December 8, 19 44 is written as 12-8-19 44.  1+2+8+1+9+4+4 = 29; 2+9 = 11 for a Life Path Number of 29/11.

2.     September 30, 1989 is written as 9-30-1989 .  9+3+0+1+9+8+9 = 39; 3+9 = 12 for a Life Path Number of 39/12.

3.     January 24, 19 38 is written as 1-24-19 38.  1+2+4+1+9+3+8 = 28; 2+8 = 10 for a Life Path Number of 28/10.

4.     June 20, 19 66 is written as 6-20-19 66.  6+2+0+1+9+6+6 = 30; 3+0 = 3 for a Life Path Number of 30/3.

 

Please note:  Although all of the numbers and the energies they represent are significant, the General Life Path number(s) to the right of the slash mark have a stronger influence in terms of life purpose.

 

General Life Path Number Descriptions

If you haven't already done so, find your General Life Path number:  How Do I Determine My General and Specific Life Path numbers?  Your General Life Path number is the single most important number in your numerology chart because it represents the road in life you were born to travel on and the lessons you are here to learn.  Your whole life will be influenced by your General Life Path number.  I did not believe this when I first heard it.  Who says I am here to learn certain lessons?  Why?  How can anyone know what those lessons are for sure?  Again, I don't know how it works but after studying hundreds of charts now I can unequivocally say that we each have general and specific lessons to learn because experience has taught me that people DO grapple with the issues of their General Life Path number.  You cannot change your date of birth but you can learn the lessons implied by it!
